Suspected Child Pornography Must Be Reported To Law Enforcement

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) arrested a 41-year-old Georgia woman on multiple counts of child molestation and child sexual exploitation.

Agents with the GBI's Child Exploitation and Cyber Crimes Unit investigated the woman based on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

A report to the CyberTipline suggested the woman was in possession of and distributing child sexual abuse material.

GBI agents obtained a warrant to search the woman's house and arrested her on four counts of sexual exploitation of children and two counts of child molestation. "Southeast Georgia woman charged with child molestation" www.wsbtv.com (Aug. 28, 2024).

Commentary

Child pornography is defined as "any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a minor (someone under 18 years of age)."

Illegal child pornography includes "photographs, videos, digital or computer- generated images indistinguishable from an actual minor, and images created, adapted, or modified, but appear to depict an identifiable, actual minor," as well as "undeveloped film, undeveloped videotape, and electronically stored data that can be converted into a visual image of child pornography." "Citizen's Guide To U.S. Federal Law On Child Pornography" www.justice.gov (Aug.  11, 2023).

If parents, guardians, or safe adults have reason to believe that a person is producing, distributing, receiving, or possessing child pornography, they must report it immediately. Reports should be made to local law enforcement and also at https://report.cybertip.org.
